My mechanic sent me pictures.
New Tandem ABC pump, $1,700.
Some new hydraulic lines they apparently needed to order from Germany, copious amounts of labor I’m sure, and “while we were in there, we say it needed 3 idler pulleys and the belt tensioner, and another hose” but at least they won’t charge any more labor for that. Oh, that’s right, also getting to the pump constituted the second evacuation and recharge of the A/C system in less than 7 days.
Total damage: $5,572.00
I don’t know how I am going to manage to keep this thing...

Oof. I wish I could help man. At least it’s all in one place for the most part. Do you have a backup car to use so you could just put the S600 away for some time ?

Used good confition ABC pumps for your car go for 500$... You should have never let them order brand new parts from the delearship... it’s a receipe for getting fucked.

That pump is for a 2002, which is a completely different engine. But you are right. I found this part about a day too late.

We have a fourth car...but it’s a 1975 MG Midget...and it currently will not hold coolant.

If and when the time comes, and I’m still desperately grasping straws to hold onto that if, I will need everybody’s help to find a DeVille DHS with a black carriage roof, over black, over black leather with a moonroof, ventilated seats, and the navigation system. But I’m not quite there yet.

Is there any meaning to the license plate?

Maybe his donor parts car is called Marie Antoinette. So far, he's only needed a head.

Yes, it’s a joke. The word Bourgeois missing an E because 8 letter maximum.
It uses the meaning in the word in the modern vernacular, and the play Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. Essentially it’s simply calling out myself for being an average middle middle class schmuck who has bought an aristocrats ex-car. A loser driving a rich man’s car which he cannot afford to maintain, in order to maintain a false image. It’s a pejorative; self deprecating humor.

After seeing one of your other comments I went hunting and I found this locally so tempting.
2004 Escalade with 150,000kms (93,750 miles) for $8500 bucks. I’d show up with $7500 bucks and try to make it happen.

What’s the problem? My S600 works great(for now) ! Have you ever driven a S600 per chance? Believe me, the repair bills are worth it.

Just do it and keep your fit around as a backup. When my S600 broke down, I had my ‘98 accord to drive around in until it was fixed .

lol No I haven’t driven one yet. I’ve wanted to get a used AMG S-Class for a while, but the repair bills are too rich for my blood... But then again, I can never get my GM cars running perfectly either. haha

Lol. I definitely get where you’re coming from, since I bought my S600 in June, I’ve spent $3800 fixing it. The trouble is that is have big problems trying to daily drive anything other than a V12 S class. It's definitely spoiled me.

Just $3,800? You bought a better one than i did. I’m at...lets see...$3,100 for the suspension rebuild, $575 for brakes, $640 for the alarm module, $300 for the A/C recharge, now $5,500 on the hydraulics.
And my $1,200 warranty covered $600 of the original suspension work and might cover the idler pulleys and belt tensioner.
But yeah. I honestly cannot see going back to something less than an S-Class. It’s just too damn good. I NEED MY RADAR CRUISE CONTROL, I’VE FORGOTTEN HOW TO USE NORMAL CRUISE CONTROL!

I paid $9,995 for mine.

That seems... Interesting. I paid 17,000 for mine so you’re still a ways behind me in terms of spending. I bought the best one I could find and it turns out I’m like the fifth or sixth owner. Only 85,000 miles though.

Ouch. Wish there was something I could do to help. On the plus side, once you get through this pretty much every common item will have been taken care of, except for maybe ignition coils (I don’t know if yours have been done or not). Just trying to think positive thoughts :)
I live your license plate btw

Well, either I won’t own the car long enough to see the coils fail or if I can manage to stick it out, I know I can get a coil rebuilt by RMT for like $750. I researched THAT before I bought the car.
